How The Physician By The Lima Trees Earned His Name

iffy

In an almost forgotten time, of the Kandyan kings
In the tropical green Kandyan hills Lived The Physician by the Lima Trees

Renowned for his skill, he treated the ill
Under the shade of the Lima Trees

A desperate king, his dear princess had turned sickly
A father in distress, he needed help and he needed it quickly
A good word reaches him, of The Physician by the Lima Trees

The king sent for the physician
to be brought forth to the royal court
and to the princess, her majesty
hidden behind a curtain, for her modesty

The instruction —
Without sight nor without sound
only to touch through fabric
Find the cause and find the cure
or your life is forfeit

Over the veil, the physician reached
Searching, sensing, looking for a clue
Then his eyes flew open, and his hand withdrew!
Not sick, not a princess, none of it true!

"It," declared the physician, "It... is an animal!"

Servants shocked in silence!
Bodyguards bared blades!
An insult, for which blood shall be paid!
The physician doomed to die
Until he was saved!
By the king himself, who ordered his men to wait

To know if rumors were real
It was a test of skill and knowledge
And so the physician survived
Not to cross to his final bridge

He went on to find the princess's ailment
and treated her back to good health
For his reward, he was given more than just wealth.

From the king to the physician, and his lineage to come
A title
A name for his house
Awarded by royal decree
The House of The Physician by the Lima Trees
